SC fines ED 1 lakh for contesting bail of man suffering from cancer

Passing first such order against any probe agency, a bench of Justices MR Shah and MM Sundresh criticised ED for appealing a year-old Allahabad HC order granting bail to Kamal Ahsan, an ex-Axis Bank official accused of siphoning out over Rs 22 crore and who was booked under PMLA by ED.

SC raps MP govt over detention of doc under NSA, nixes order

Holding it mandatory for a government authority to expeditiously deal with and communicate its decision on a representation made by a person against preventive detention, the Supreme Court on Friday invalidated an order passed by Madhya Pradesh government against a doctor after noting that no decision was taken on his representation for two months.
