SC gives justice to rich & poor with equal speed, says CJI-designate Uday Umesh Lalit

TOI asked him whether the judiciary unwittingly gave precedence to cases of the rich and influential, who engage renowned senior advocates assisted by a battery of lawyers, as compared to the cases of poor and marginalised who could ill afford even a lawyer.

SC raps MP govt over detention of doc under NSA, nixes order

Holding it mandatory for a government authority to expeditiously deal with and communicate its decision on a representation made by a person against preventive detention, the Supreme Court on Friday invalidated an order passed by Madhya Pradesh government against a doctor after noting that no decision was taken on his representation for two months.
