Can't ascribe motive to judge, says SC, issues contempt notice

The Supreme Court on Friday issued a contempt notice against two lawyers for attributing motive to MP HC Chief Justice Ravi Malimath in a case. One of the lawyers had drafted the petition while the other argued the case.

SC raps MP govt over detention of doc under NSA, nixes order

Holding it mandatory for a government authority to expeditiously deal with and communicate its decision on a representation made by a person against preventive detention, the Supreme Court on Friday invalidated an order passed by Madhya Pradesh government against a doctor after noting that no decision was taken on his representation for two months.
