Nearly 100 flights delayed at Delhi airport after visibility drops to zero, CAT III in place

On a Friday morning, nearly 100 flights at Indira Gandhi International Airport were delayed due to dense fog, causing visibility to drop to zero meters. Despite the challenging conditions, no flights were diverted or canceled, as confirmed by Delhi airport officials. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) implemented CAT III procedures at the airport, with the runway visual range varying between 125 to 200 meters under CAT IIIB. Visibility remained below 200 meters from 4:30 am to 9:30 am, prompting the IMD to issue a 'yellow' alert for dense fog over the weekend. During low visibility, the airport follows specific procedures, such as CAT-I for visibility above 550 meters, CAT-II for visibility between 275-550 meters, and CAT-III for pilots to land even when visibility is below 275 meters, down to 50 meters.
