BMC to set up committee to decide on Malabar Hill reservoir's reconstruction

The Mumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has formed a committee, consisting of IIT professors, technical experts, and citizens, to evaluate the need for reconstructing the historic 1887 Malabar Hill reservoir. The reconstruction would involve cutting down 389 trees. The committee will also consider alternative options such as repairing the existing structure. The committee is expected to submit a report within a month. Meanwhile, the guardian minister has reportedly ordered a halt to the ongoing work at the Hanging Gardens site where the reservoir is located.
