Maha midday meal: Dal-khichdi every day (no veggies, fruit, sweet)!

The midday meal scheme in Maharashtra, India, is lacking in nutrition and variety compared to other states such as Tamil Nadu and Karnataka. The cost per meal for underprivileged students is only Rs 5.45 for classes 1 to 5 and Rs 8.17 for classes 6 to 8. The meals consist mainly of dal-khichdi with no vegetables, eggs, or fruits. The state is now considering revamping the menu to include items such as multigrain paratha, idlis, and fortified khichdi.
