Bombay HC grants bail to Elgar accused Mahesh Raut in NIA case

The Bombay high court has granted bail to Mahesh Raut, a researcher accused in the Elgar Parishad case. Raut was facing charges of having alleged Maoist links and was under the anti-terror law-UAPA. The court stated that there was no evidence of any covert or overt terrorist act attributed to Raut. The bail is set at a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has requested a two-week stay to appeal the court's decision. Raut's lawyer argued that there was no prima facie case against him. The court also noted that there was no evidence to support the NIA's claim that Raut was a recruiter for a banned outfit.
