2-yr RI for woman who hit mother-in-law with stump
A 45-year-old widow, Mariamma Devendra, has been sentenced to two years' rigorous imprisonment for assaulting her 75-year-old mother-in-law during a property dispute. The judge refused to grant her probation, stating that the severity of the assault does not warrant leniency. The victim, Chinnama Devendra, suffered grievous injuries and will continue to be impacted by them in her old age. Mariamma has been fined Rs 5,000, which will be paid to the victim as compensation. The incident occurred in 2015 when Mariamma asked Chinnama to sign a blank stamp paper for the transfer of a house in her name.
