Kareer picked as chief secy, likely to get tenure extension
Nitin Kareer, the additional chief secretary (finance), has been appointed as the new Maharashtra chief secretary, replacing Manoj Saunik. Kareer, an IAS officer of the 1988 batch, will have a three-month tenure as he is due for retirement on March 31. There is a possibility of an extension for him due to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Sujata Saunik, who missed out on becoming the state's first woman CS, has a chance after Kareer's retirement. The state government is urged to refrain from granting tenure extensions to retiring officers.
