I-T officer who assaulted TC with chappal gets 6-mth RI, fined Rs 1L

A sessions court in Mumbai has convicted and sentenced Rishikumar Singh, an assistant income-tax commissioner, to six months' rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 lakh. Singh assaulted a ticket checker at a railway station in 2016 for discharging his duty. The victim, Sujitkumar Gupta, asked Singh to show his ticket, but Singh replied that he was an income-tax commissioner and didn't need one. Singh hit Gupta with his chappal when stopped from leaving. The judge refuted Singh's claims and stated that not wearing a blazer or tie doesn't change the nature of the duty of a public servant.
