Girls make up 26% of new entrants at 4 southern IITs, above nat'l avg of 20%

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Hyderabad zone has the highest gender ratio among all IIT campuses, with 26% female students. This zone comprises Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Puducherry. The number of female students in IITs has tripled since the introduction of supernumerary seats for women. IIT Delhi aims to achieve a 50:50 gender ratio on its campus. The institutes have made progress in improving gender diversity, and the ultimate goal is to make gender a non-issue. The supernumerary quota is seen as a positive step towards creating more female leaders in various fields.
